PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria Police Department’s latest update concerning its Anti-Violence initiative includes the arrests of 19 people.
Police Chief Eric Echevarria says the latest effort involved a high visibility deployment of officers in hotspot crime areas Tuesday, Jan. 25 and Friday, Jan. 28.
Additionally, one weapon and drugs such as cannabis and cocaine were also seized.

Tuesday, January 25th and Friday, January 28, 2022, Peoria Police conducted two separate enforcement details (high visibility deployment of officers in hotspot crime areas). This was the Peoria Police Department’s fourth and fifth directed patrol of 2022 to combat violent crime in our community. Total Directed Patrol Statistics for Tuesday, January 25th and Friday, January 28, 2022:
• ARRESTS: 19

• DRUGS SEIZED: 44g cannabis, 1oz cocaine & 2.8g cocaine

In keeping with departmental transparency, the following summarizes the results of Tuesday’s efforts:
• 800 blk of E. Ravine, 8:23pm: Officers conducted a vehicle stop that resulted in the seizure of a handgun and a loaded magazine that was found in the jacket pocket of the passenger. The passenger of the vehicle has a valid FOID but no CCW permit (Carry A Concealed Weapon) He was arrested for UUW (Unlawful Use of a Weapon) The driver of the vehicle has a Peoria County Warrant for Reckless Driving and Telephone Harassment. Both were transported to PCJ. (PPD Incident # 22-1626)
• Thrush/Peoria, 11:00pm: Officer conducted a traffic stop which resulted in the seizure of 44g of cannabis in baggies ready for street sale. The suspect was arrested and issued a NTA (Notice to Appear). The vehicle was impounded. (PPD Incident # 22-1636)
• 1100 blk of E. Nebraska, 6:40pm: Officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle. Through GPS tracking officers were able to locate the vehicle. At approximately 7:24 pm the vehicle was located unoccupied in an alley on N. Wisconsin. (PPD Incident # 22-1617)
In keeping with departmental transparency, the following summarizes the results of Friday’s efforts:
• 1200 blk of N. Orange 8:20pm: Officers responded to the discovery of several stolen vehicles. Peoria Patrol officers along with members of PPD’s Special Investigations Division (SID) located one of the stolen vehicles and arrested two juvenile suspects. Keys to another stolen car were located on one of the suspects. A short time later another stolen vehicle was located in the 1200 blk of N. Ellis, and a 4th stolen vehicle was located in the 700 blk of Columbia Terrace. The two juveniles were taken to PPD to be interviewed and later arrested for Motor Vehicle Theft. One of the juveniles had a Peoria County Probation Violation warrant and the other had a Woodford County warrant for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Aggravated Fleeing/Eluding and Criminal Damage to State Property. Both were transported to JDC. (PPD Incident # 22-1774)
• 1600 blk of Missouri: At approximately 4:00pm Officers responded to a 5th stolen vehicle that was discovered abandoned. Officers confirmed the vehicle was reported stolen earlier that day from the 200 blk of E. Forrest Hill. (PPD Incident # 22-1768)
• 1600 blk N. North: At approximately 2:09pm Peoria Police Officers responded to Peoria High School to assist school resource officers with crowd control. When officers arrived, they were informed that several fights occurred inside and outside the school causing a crowd togather. Officers on scene arrested eight juveniles and one adult on charges ranging from Mob Action to Aggravated Battery on school personnel. All eight juveniles were transported to JDC, but upon arrival, five of the juveniles had to be taken to an area hospital to be examined after being exposed to pepper spray. Once they were medically cleared, all five were taken back to JDC. The adult was transported to PCJ. This case is still under investigation. Members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) and Patrol responded to the scene. (PPD Incident # 22-1797)
