PEORIA, Ill. — A sure sign that school is about to start each year, is the Dream Center’s Backpack Peoria event.
The Center’s Andy King told WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, the event is open to all students in grades K-12.
“We have 2,500 backpacks loaded with supplies ready for folks,” King said.
There will also be $10 gift cards for school uniforms for the first 750 Peoria Public Schools students, in grades K-8, who need them.
Along with backpacks and school supplies, medical professionals will provide school physicals and dental exams.
District 150 staff will supply food for those attending Backpack Peoria, the Dream Center’s Mobile Hair Salon will give haircuts, and clothing from the Hope Store will also be available at no charge.
Like last year, families can use the drive-through or walk-up option to receive supplies.
Backpack Peoria is being held Saturday, July 31, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Dream Center, located at 714 Hamilton Boulevard, in downtown Peoria (and across the street in the UnityPoint Health parking lot).
