PEORIA, Ill. – The Carp will stay home for the championship.
USL League Two announced Monday morning that the National Championship game will take place at Shea Stadium. The match between Peoria City and Seacoast United Phantoms of New Hampshire will be Saturday at 7:30 P.M.
Peoria City earned their spot in the championship match by defeating FC Tucson on Sunday, 5-1. Seacoast defeated Asheville City SC, 1-0, in a battle of two of the top teams in the league.
The decision for Peoria City to host will mean playoff games will be in the River City for the third straight weekend, and will ensure that the entire run for the Carp will be in front of home fans.
Peoria City says the decision to host was based on factors, such as operational standards, fan attendance, digital engagement, and more.
USL League Two Senior Vice President of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties Joel Mash says the decision to bring the title game to Peoria shows the club understands soccer and the community.
“What they’ve been able to build there in three years is a testament to the best of what this league can be for our clubs. These two teams have worked incredibly hard this season, and we can’t wait to celebrate both of their efforts this weekend,” Nash said.
Tickets for the championship game are available now.
