PEORIA, Ill. – A teenager accused of murdering another teenager in August in Peoria’s East Bluff will be tried as an adult for First-Degree Murder.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says a petition was granted Friday to transfer 14-year-old Byron Jarvis’ case to Adult Court.
At a detention hearing held Wednesday, Jarvis was ordered to stay in custody of the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center until the trial.
Jarvis is accused in the shooting death of 17-year-old Dahvie Brown-Bey. The shooting occurred the evening of August 22nd in the area of North Wisconsin and East Kansas, with Brown-Bey pronounced dead early the next morning. It was Peoria’s 14th homicide of the year.
Prosecutors say Jarvis allegedly fired four shots at Brown-Bey, with a video reportedly showing three of those shots at Brown-Bey’s head from point-blank range, in front of several bystanders. The bystanders include a 10-year-old and a 13-year-old.
