PEORIA, Ill. – The Greater Peoria Area Honor Flight left for Washington, D.C. early Wednesday morning.
Luke Rosenbaum, president of the honor flight, tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan”, 74 local veterans are making the trip.
“Each one of them has a guardian, either a family member, a friend or someone in the community helping out. Not to mention, we have all of our staff, so we’re going to be filling up a 737, with just about every seat full today,” Rosenbaum says.
The Greater Peoria Honor Flight was scheduled to leave around 6:30 Wednesday morning from Peoria International Airport.
Rosenbaum says to his knowledge, this is the first time Peoria’s Honor Flight hasn’t included any WWII veterans.
“They obviously get a first shot, if they’re out there still. So, if anyone listening to the radio has a WWII veteran that has not been on an Honor Flight, get a hold of us,” Rosenbaum says.
The Greater Peoria Honor Flight is scheduled to return home to Peoria International Airport around 9:30 Wednesday night.
The community is encouraged to welcome the veterans home at PIA. Shuttles at the airport will be starting at 8 p.m.
