PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria County Board has okayed what is being described as a maximum cost for the long-proposed brand new health and human services campus.
County officials say the vote Wednesday was 15 to 3 in favor of the maximum $18.7 million price from River City Construction for the campus on what is now the Sheridan Road Health Department headquarters, but will also have offices for the Regional Office of Education, the Coroner’s Office, and the Resource Conservation Department.
The complete cost is more than $22 million — most of which is from federal American Rescue Plan COVID-19 relief money.
“I am extremely pleased with the Board’s decision to move forward with this incredibly vital project for our community,” said James Dillon, Chairperson of the Peoria County Board, in a news release. “Between American Rescue Plan Act funds, our Health Department’s reserve funds, and additional grants and allocations, we will be able to undertake this massive project without raising property taxes.”
Unknown costs thanks to supply chain and other issues had caused issues with the construction since ground was broken last November.
Construction is set to last about a year.
