PEORIA, Ill. – Three juveniles were caught abandoning an allegedly stolen vehicle by officers on another of Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria’s frequent Anti-Violence Initiative details.
That’s according to Peoria Police. The theft was reported around 1:45 p.m. Thursday on South Western Avenue.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle but it fled.
It was later found as juveniles were trying to leave it in the parking lot of Manual High School.
The juveniles all were eventually taken into custody after allegedly running from the scene, on charges of Motor Vehicle Theft, Motor Vehicle Theft Conspiracy, and Resisting Police.
Only one other person was arrested during the detail, and 44 vehicles were stopped.
One stolen vehicle was recovered during the detail, six tickets were issued, one vehicle was impounded, and three abandoned vehicles were towed, all according to police.
” Now that the weather is getting warmer, officers with the Peoria Police Department will begin this year’s ‘Walk and Talks’ in local neighborhoods. This will not stop or slow down our Detailed Patrols. They will continue, and our dedicated officers will also continue to arrest those who break the law.” — Chief Eric Echevarria statement
