PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria County jury has convicted a Peoria man of First-Degree Murder for the death in 2018 of his elderly father.
Court records indicate Mark Runyon, 43, was found guilty Wednesday after a trial lasting several days.
Runyon’s father Frank was found on the floor of a home on South Stanley Street in May of 2018, unconscious and having trouble breathing. He died days later in the hospital.
Prosecutors believe Runyon struck his father and then failed to seek medical treatment for him.
Multiple attempts by people to check on Frank Runyon failed, and Mark allegedly didn’t immediately answer the door when police came calling.
The defense reportedly claimed there was no physical evidence connecting Mark Runyon with the death.
Sentencing is scheduled for January 5th.
