PEKIN, Ill. – A judge agrees with a doctor who’s examined a Washington man charged with attempted murder, in that he’s unfit to stand trial.
25 News reports a judge made that determination against David Naffziger, 50, who was supposed to appear in court via Zoom for a hearing Wednesday, but apparently is refusing, saying he wanted to speak to his attorneys first.
Naffziger was arrested a month ago after allegedly stabbing his sister and her dog, then setting their rural Washington home on fire.
He claimed spirits caused him to commit the acts.
Another fitness hearing is scheduled for June 6, after he’s checked into treatment at a state facility.
His attorneys believe he could be fit to stand trial in a year.
