PEORIA, Ill. — There is a lot of excitement building for fans of the hometown Peoria Rivermen semi-pro hockey team as they continue a deep post-season run which could very well end in a championship.
Following action on the ice late Friday, the Rivermen are up 2-0 in the best of five Southern Professional Hockey League President’s Cup series against the Roanoke Rail Yard Dogs.
The Rivermen notched a convincing 7-3 win Friday night at Carver Arena.
“I think the guys have a great chance this weekend,” said longtime Peoria Rivermen superfan Susie Cranford.
She says she and a group of fellow Rivermen fan friends plan to travel 11 hours to the site of Game 3 Monday in Roanoke, Virginia, where the Rivermen have a chance to win the series and hoist the President’s Cup for themselves.
If the home team can’t seal the deal on the road, they’ll have a chance to win a Game 5 final back at Carver Arena in downtown Peoria on Thursday, May 5.
