PEORIA, Ill. – Bradley University students may have gotten their wish about one of their fellow students not being able to walk in next month’s commencement ceremony, following her arrest on charges involving a fatal accident in East Peoria.
WMBD News has learned the list of students approved to participate in commencement exercises next month from the School of Communication and Fine Arts at Bradley no longer includes Stephanie Melgoza, 23.
Melzoga faces seven charges including Aggravated Driving Under the Influence, and Aggravated Reckless Driving, after she allegedly struck and killed Andrea Rosewicz, 43, of Ohio, and Paul Prowant, 55, of Seattle.
The two were walking along North Main Street in East Peoria April 10 when they were struck.
After the crash, Melgoza could be seen on police body camera video saying, among other things, “I’m just wondering when I can go back to school.”
A Bradley spokesperson says they can’t comment on ongoing student judicial or conduct-related cases.
Melgoza is out of the Tazewell County Jail after posting the required ten percent of $150,000 bond. She’s scheduled to be back in Tazewell County Court May 24 for an arraignment hearing.
