MORTON, Ill. – Heating bills for residents of Morton are going up again this winter.
Our news partner 25 News reports natural gas prices are being impacted by increases in foreign markets. A 30 percent price hike for the city-operated utility’s bills is expected.
“The economy has been tough on some people. There may be people struggling,” said Craig Loudermilk, Morton Public Works Director. “I think those are the things if you have a 30% or higher on the bill on the gas portion of the utility bill, maybe conserve a little bit. That’s lowering the thermostat. I do the same at my house.”
Residents didn’t have to foot the bill of a five-hundred-percent price hike in February, because the village stepped in to help.
That increase, though, was blamed on price-gouging by suppliers.
