PEORIA, Ill. — Representatives from Peoria area organizations gathered at the Peoria Riverfront Museum on Thursday as they look ahead to the year 2030.
JD Dalfonso, President and CEO of the Greater Peoria Convention and Visitors Bureau, told WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, their focus is bringing people and businesses to Central Illinois over the next decade.
“We have bright young people from all organizations coming, being excited, writing on the white board about what they love here,” Dalfonso said.
The Greater Peoria 2030 Campaign is using data from the 2020 Census to plan for the area’s future.
The Census showed a decline in population in the Peoria area over the past ten years, and local leaders want to reverse that trend.
Dalfonso said the campaign focus goes well beyond the City of Peoria.
“Leanne Brown over in Morton is championing this as well, and Chillicothe was there. So, this is what really makes it…when Amy McCoy stood up and said, what’s good for Pekin, is good for Peoria, and what’s good for Peoria, is good for Pekin.” Dalfonso said.
Members of the Greater Peoria 2030 Campaign are spending $75,000 on the first segment of their efforts through June 2022.
