WASHINGTON, Ill. – The Washington Police Department will hold a press conference at 2 p.m. Tuesday regarding information about a body found last week behind Sunnyland Plaza.
The body discovered in a drainage ditch behind the plaza Wednesday, June 17.
Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley said 34-year-old Kyle McMurtrey was pronounced dead at 10:15 a.m.
Washington Police Chief Mike McCoy said the call came in around 9:30 a.m.
“We were notified of a potential body in the drainage ditch behind the Sunnyland Plaza,” McCoy said.
The cause and manner of McMurtrey’s death were being withheld, pending further investigation.
In addition to the WPD and Coroner’s Office, the Illinois State Police and Tazewell County State’s Attorney’s Office were assisting with the investigation.
