SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Peoria area was one of few areas in the state to actually post a job decline in November compared to a year ago, but the decline was slight.
According to federal statistics through the Illinois Department of Employment Security, the Peoria area saw a decline of 300 jobs between November 2023 and November 2022. The total non-farm payroll jobs is at 172,600, compared to 172,900 in November 2022.
The Decatur and Rockford areas were the only others in the state to also see job declines in that period. Decatur’s decline was higher than Peoria’s, while Rockford’s was much steeper than those.
The unemployment rate for the Peoria area in November came in at 4.1 percent – just a tenth of a point higher than November of last year.
The City of Peoria jobless average was at 4.9 percent, up three-tenths of a point.
Peoria County’s unemployment rate is at 4.5 percent, up one tenth of a point.
Tazewell County unemployment sits at 3.7 percent, also up one tenth.
Woodford County’s unemployment rate went up two tenths, and now sits at 3.4 percent.
The Pekin city unemployment rate for November was 4.1 percent, one tenth of a point.
In the Peoria area, the state says the largest declines were in Professional-Business Services, Transportation-Warehousing-Utilities, Information, Educational-Health Services, and Financial Activities. Those losses were largely offset by gains in Government, Retail Trade, Construction-Mining, Wholesale Trade, and Other Services.
