PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police say they’re investigating what now is the city’s 25th homicide of the year.
It happened just before 10 p.m Saturday. As officers say four rounds were heard being fired near Frye and New York in the East Bluff neighborhood, they discovered a man inside a home who had to be pronounced dead at the scene.
The Peoria County Coroner is expected to release more details on the victim.
There’s no word yet on a suspect.
Peoria’s homicide total for this year equals the number of homicides reported in the city all of last year — still lower than the record year of 2021. Police have been saying the number of shooting-related incidents is higher this year, but other types of crimes have been down.
