WASHINGTON, D.C. – Millions of Americans are getting ready to hit the road or take to the skies as Thanksgiving approaches.
Fox News says this holiday travel season is expected to be one of the busiest on record. But, a storm system making its way across the country could cause travelers trouble, especially if they’ll be flying.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Monday provided an update, saying his department is working on enforcing rules to make sure travelers this holiday season get compensated for any delays or cancellations they incur.
“If your flight gets canceled or significantly delayed for any reason, I want the traveling public to know that you are entitled to a full cash refund, if you chose to take that refund rather than rebook it,” Buttigieg says.
Triple-A estimates more than 55 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more over the Thanksgiving holiday period, which is a 2.3 percent increase from last year.
The airlines advise checking with their websites before heading to the airport, especially during the holiday season, for current flight information.
