PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – Crews from area fire departments were called in to assist the Peoria Heights Fire Department late Wednesday morning with a large fire at a mechanical garage.
The fire call came in around 11:10 a.m. in the area of Moneta and California Streets.
Peoria Heights Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Schadt tells WMBD News the fire started in a two-stall mechanics area behind a storefront area.
The assistant chief says the fire could have been going on for hours.
No cause of the fire has been determined.
Two people inside the storefront area evacuated safely. No injuries were reported.
Peoria, West Peoria and Dunlap fire crews responded to a mutual aid call from Peoria Heights Fire.
The building is expected to be a total loss, according to Schadt.
