PEORIA, Ill. – Three people have been charged with animal cruelty – accused of leaving several dogs kenneled on a boat on the Illinois River last month.
Peoria County State’s Attorney Jodi Hoos says 23-year-old Amanda O’Neill, 19-year-old, Kourtney Recaldini, and 22-year-old Jacob Bees were each charged on $5,000 arrest warrants.
Police were called to an abandoned boat anchored near the Peoria RiverPlex on July 5. Inside, officers found seven emaciated dogs without access to any food or water.
One other dog was found dead.
O’Neil, Recaldini and Bees were all living on the boat with the dogs, according to a news release.
The case remains under investigation and more charges are expected when the case goes before a grand jury later this month.
