PEORIA, Ill. – A new labor deal is now official between the Peoria Public Library and its workers’ union.
The union, represented by AFSCME Local 3463, ratified the deal last week, while the library’s Board of Trustees approved the deal at their meeting Tuesday evening.
PPL Executive Director Randall Yelverton says it was a long process to get a deal done.
“In that process, through it, we came to an agreement that we were both satisfied with,” Yelverton said.
Yelverton did not provide specifics of changes made in the new contract.
One of the central points of discussion was wages, with the union arguing that raises were needed to reach a liveable wage.
And even after ratification on their end, the union said it did get everything it wanted in the contract, but were closer to it.
Yelverton said both sides usually don’t get everything they want in negotiations.
“As evidenced by the fact that it was ratified by the union and passed by the Board, it is, I think, an agreement that we are all satisfied with,” Yelverton said.
The new contract runs until the end of 2025.
