PEKIN, Ill. – Becky Cloyd apparently will be on the April election ballot after all.
The Pekin City Council member, according to a statement from her campaign, won her bid in Tazewell County Court Thursday to be reinstated as a candidate for Mayor.
This, after the city’s election commission, which included outgoing Mayor Mark Luft, voted to remove her from the ballot over incomplete paperwork.
25 News reports a judge found that Cloyd substantially complied with rules regarding signatures
Attorney Tom DeVore claimed in court that based on a recording of the December electoral board meeting indicated City Clerk didn’t know what she was voting on at one point.
DeVore is a former candidate for Illinois Attorney General and who helped State Senator Darren Bailey sue the state over COVID-19 mandates. He also represents some candidates that were running for offices in elections in Bloomington-Normal.
Cloyd will face fellow council member David Nutter, and now-former Tazewell County Treasurer Mary Burress.
