PEORIA, Ill. — Lawyers have entered a not guilty plea for a man accused of beating his grandmother to death with a hammer in her West Peoria home last month.
28-year-old accused killer Cody Krause did not appear in-person for arraignment on Monday, but appeared via video from his cell as his attorneys issued the not guilty plea in his stead.
According to 25 News, the judge also agreed to allow a psychological evaluation on Krause before the case moves to trial.
Krause reportedly told investigators after the attack the voices in his head stopped after attacking his grandmother, Glenda Rusterholz, 73, but that, “I became a monster.”
A Peoria County grand jury has already indicted him on six counts of first degree murder.
Krause’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 9th. For now, he remains jailed on $2.5 million bond.
