PEORIA, Ill. – A former Peoria man will spend a couple years in prison after pleading guilty to having a gun when he shouldn’t have.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Roy Rolfe, 40, of Metropolis, was sentenced to 27 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, on charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm.
Prosecutors say in March of 2020, Washington Police pulled Rolfe’s vehicle over and discovered drugs and a sawed-off shotgun inside, which he wasn’t allowed to have because of prior criminal convictions.
The shotgun’s serial number was believed to be removed.
Authorities say because of its length and shortened barrel, it had to be registered under federal law.
“This prosecution and sentence should serve as a reminder that felons with guns will be aggressively prosecuted,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney Ronald L. Hanna, in a news release. “We sincerely appreciate the efforts of the ATF and the Washington Police Department – this is another example of how local and federal collaboration makes our communities safer.”
A judge ordered Rolfe to forfeit his guns and ammunition.
