LINCOLN, Ill. – The National Weather Service says it’s getting more confident that the Peoria area could see a considerable amount of snow in the coming days.
Forecasters in Lincoln say the Peoria area is now under a Winter Storm Warning in effect from Tuesday night until Thursday evening.
“Significant impacts could begin as soon as Tuesday night north of I-70, spreading south of there on Wednesday,” said Meteorologist Alex Erwin.
Erwin says the snow will come to central Illinois in two waves, but the potential exists for at least eight inches of snow total falling in Peoria and points south.
And if you’re trying to travel in or after the snow, good luck.
“Another concern that we have is the potential for blowing snow Wednesday night and Thursday,” said Erwin. “Travel is going to become very difficult, to perhaps even impossible at times, and there could be power outages possible, especially in areas where icing is expected to occur.”
Erwin says the icing is possible in southeast Illinois, but blowing snow is more likely in this area.
Much colder air and below-zero wind chills will be ushered in by the second wave of snow.
