PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria’s two major hospital systems are joining the call for more blood donations, and fast.
A joint statement from UnityPoint Health and OSF HealthCare says increased demand and decreased donations has led to, in their words, “major shortages”.
Methodist, Saint Francis, and Proctor say they’ve had to implement changes internally regarding how they use and store blood to make sure the most critical patients have blood.
“Blood donations are needed now to avert the need to postpone potential lifesaving treatments for our patients,” the hospitals said in the joint statement.
They are urging going to BloodCenterImpact.org to schedule a donation. That’s the website for ImpactLife, formerly the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center.
