CHICAGO, Ill. – Illinois Governor JB Pritzker says the number of new cases of COVID-19 in the state isn’t the only thing concerning him about the virus right now.
Pritzker says there’s a growing problem of COVID-19 testing sites that aren’t really testing sites at all — they’re scams.
“Some of them may be fly-by-night pop-up testing; where all they’re doing is taking the swabs, and putting them in the liquid that keeps it,” said Pritzker. “Then, they’re not taking responsibility for how long it takes to get that test back from a lab that they may not have a very strong relationship with.”
Pritzker says some aren’t even returning results at all. He says he’s urging the Illinois Attorney General to look into such sites, and will try to get them shut down if needed.
“Working with the Attorney General’s office, we intend to make sure that those operations are no longer doing to customers and patients what they have been doing,” said Pritzker.
The governor recommends sites like the Peoria Civic Center parking lot to get tested over some pop-up sites. The Civic Center site, starting this week, operates Monday through Saturday every week.
