BARTONVILLE, Ill. — Limestone Community High School will be closed on Tuesday, following a threat to the school last week.
In a Facebook post, school officials said Tuesday morning that the decision was made to close “out of an abundance of caution for the safety and security of students and staff.”
A Limestone student was arrested Thursday, December 9 for making a threat to the school.
Bartonville Police had an increased presence at the school on Monday as a precaution.
Limestone Superintendent Dr. Allan Gresham told WMBD News that more chatter on social media developed over the weekend.
“It culminated last (Monday) afternoon and evening. Kind of two social media posts that we became aware of, that started to circulate around the community, that were concerning to us and our parents,” Gresham said.
Gresham said that one of the posts has been ruled out because it was actually linked to a school in Allegheny, New York with a similar name.
The other post is still being investigated by Bartonville Police and the school district to determine if it’s valid or credible.
“It does have ties, and is related to what we experienced last Thursday, but is not the same student,” Gresham said.
Parents commenting on the district’s Facebook post thanked officials for taking the incidents seriously.
