PEORIA, Ill. — An early morning house fire in Peoria has left a man dead.
The fire broke out just before 5 a.m. Wednesday in the 5000 block of Endres.
Fire Battalion Chief Michael Hughes said a neighbor told firefighters that someone might still be inside the home.
“Crews made entry into the house, finding a victim right inside. They were immediately able to pull the victim from the structure,” Hughes said.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said 66-year-old Scott W. Stanard, resident of the home, was pronounced dead at the scene. Several searches found no one else inside the home.
An autopsy indicated Stanard suffered severe smoke inhalation due to the fire, according to Harwood. His body was burned badly.
Toxicology tests are pending.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No foul play is suspected.
