PEORIA, Ill. — The suspect in a burglary at Pinnacle Gun and Ammo Wednesday morning in Peoria is now in custody.
PPD responded to an intrusion alarm at the business at 701 Main Street around 5:20 a.m. Wednesday.
Peoria Police Sgt. Amy Dotson said the suspect fled the scene with multiple firearms, including long guns and ammo.
Police identified the suspect in the robbery as 29-year-old Corey A. Brooks after recovering two of the stolen firearms in Brooks’ flight path, which was canvassed by investigators.
Officers with PPD Target Offender Unit (TOU) conducted a traffic stop Wednesday evening when they observed Brooks trying to hide in the back of the car.
Brooks was taken into custody at approximately 6:20 p.m. with one of the handguns, which was loaded, he had stolen on Wednesday morning.
Brooks is being held at the Peoria County Jail pending federal charges.
The incident is still under investigation and investigators are attempting to find the other stolen firearms.
