PEORIA, Ill. — Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan will reopen museums statewide.
CEO of the Peoria Riverfront Museum John Morris confirms the museum will open its doors Wednesday, July 1.
“It’s exciting. We’ve got four terrific exhibitions behind the scenes that we’ve been preparing,” Morris said.
Due to COVID-19, the museum has been operating as a virtual museum since March.
Morris told WMBD’s Greg and Dan, the virtual museum has provided hundreds of hours of content online.
“We’ve had tremendous response in this virtual museum, which we now will keep. And, it will be a facet of our museum going forward,” Morris said.
Safety guidelines related to the coronavirus will limit the number of people that can be in the museum at one time.
“We believe right now, even stricter guidelines than the state allows 150 guests per hour,” said Morris.
The Peoria Riverfront Museum building has a total of 87,000 square feet, with 5 galleries, a planetarium and the Giant Screen Theater.
“Timed tickets” will be available in advance or at the door to ensure that guests will be able to enter the museum when they arrive.
Guests will be required to wear masks or face covering to enter the museum building until further notice.
