PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce is currently focused on helping local businesses get ready to reopen.
Chris Setti, who’s currently heading up the Chamber of Commerce as it searches for a new president, says there are a number of issues they need to be thinking about as they open their doors again.
“It’s maybe less a question of when, or why not now. Those are more political questions that are out there. But, eventually it will happen, whatever stage or phase it happens, and everybody needs to be prepared for that.”
Businesses are being advised by the Chamber of Commerce to
focus efforts on making returning and new customers feel safe.
“You certainly want, as a business, to maximize the number of people who come through your door. And, you’re not going to want to ignore that segment of the market that has those legitimate concerns about their health,” Setti said.
Setti added, social distancing in your business is something that customers will be watching closely. Their comfort level is definitely something that will determine whether or not they come in the door.
Setti told WMBD’s Greg and Dan, issues local businesses are facing include physical distancing in the workplace, getting employees off unemployment and back to work, health screenings and daycare options.
Availability of daycare for working parents in part depends on when Illinois will allow students back in the classroom.
It hasn’t been determined if Illinois children will return to schools in the fall.
