WASHINGTON D.C. — President Donald Trump said Friday that he believes the United States will not reach the 100,000 projected death toll due to COVID-19.
Trump said that many states are doing much better than expected.
He believes the country is close to the peak of the virus.
“We’re seeing hospital admissions decline very substantially as I said, and nation wide the number of new cases per day is flattening substantially suggesting that we are near the peak,” Trump said.
The choice to delay medical treatments is up to the patient and doctors Trump said, as many hospitals canceled non-essential surgeries.
The president is looking to help farmers and agriculture during this pandemic.
“We are working with them right now,” Trump said. “We are going to help our farmers.”
The FDA has issued new ventilator designs.
Since Monday, more shipments of hydroxychloroquine have been sent out.
Trump said they are getting very few calls from governors about acquiring more PPE.
More that 2 million coronavirus tests have been completed, with around 100,000 tests being done a day. Trump said experts are also looking into blood tests.
“So that Americans can determine whether or not they’ve already had the virus and potentially have immunity,” Trump said.
The FDA is assuring the antibodies test are accurate and valid.
“We’re leading the world in testing by far,” Trump said.
Trump said very soon they might be able to share tests with other parts of the world.
“Every American should be proud of what our country has achieved,” Trump said.
Many companies are building more ventilators for the country.
Sixty sterilization systems will be spread across the country that can sanitize PPE.
Trump said certain masks, such as the N95 masks can be sanitized and reused around 20 times.
Out of 184 countries, Trump said America is doing great.
