At a press conference Monday morning, Peoria County Board Chairman Andrew Rand announced his nomination for the next State’s Attorney for Peoria County, Judge Jodi Hoos.
Hoos said the nomination is bittersweet.
“Because of the passing of Jerry Brady. He was a great friend and mentor,” Hoos said.
The responsibility of filling the position was needed after the loss of State’s Attorney Jerry Brady, who died on June 13.
Hoos said she hopes to build onto the legacy that Brady left behind.
“I think Jerry personified what it means to be a public servant. He was strong, compassionate, and always served with the highest level of integrity,” Hoos said.
Hoos, a former prosecutor, said that she loves to be a voice, for those who can not speak for themselves, and can see the difference in community impact that a State’s Attorney can have, versus a judge.
“A judge decides what ever case happens to be in front of her at the time,” Hoos said. “But, a State’s Attorney with one decision, can change an entire community”.
The votes will be in Tuesday if Hoos will be the new State’s Attorney for Peoria County. If chosen, she will be the first woman State’s Attorney for the county.
“If I can give inspiration to either my daughters, or other young girls growing up and young women as they first enter their professions, I think that’s a good thing,” Hoos said. “I think they can now see somebody in that role, that has otherwise been dominated by men”.
